I photograph what I see—the moments, details, and gestures that catch my attention. My work is a reflection of how I view the world, and also an invitation for others to step behind my eyes and experience life as I do. Through the lens, I seek to capture the quiet authenticity of everyday life, focusing on ordinary people engaged in ordinary activities. The little boy in the photo below is me, dressed up for a wedding in 1962 at the age of 5. My grandfather, also named Paul, fascinated me with stories of distant lands and their people. Despite never having visited these places himself, our time spent poring over maps and examining details ignited a desire within me to explore and connect with diverse individuals.
Though my grandfather is no longer with us, I carry his memory and my passion for photography. With an unwavering fascination for maps, I use my camera to meet people and share their stories. Through my work, I strive to capture the essence of the human experience, fostering connections and reminding us of the world's mystery and beauty.
